Tale
During the 1972 Munich Olympics, an American sportscasting crew is forced to cover a hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. They head towards the exit before the credits roll. For someone who wasn’t really familiar with the story, the details of what happened really caught my attention. They did a solid job of not telegraphing the plot points. Some might find the lack of scene changes tiresome, but I think it worked in this case. I think they wanted you to feel like the control room is their world, and to feel how they felt on this eventful day. They played up the political and emotional elements really well. It makes you think without preaching. Mixing footage from the actual event, including broadcast footage as well, definitely draws you more into the experience. A nice touch. While it’s not a film I’d really like to watch again, it’s a very well-made piece that I’d recommend to friends who enjoy films like this.
