Tale
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is built on exposing the transgressions of long-respected institutions. The exceptionally talented Russian Blue cat in the Ravenscroft household improvised all of his actions and dialogue. In several episodes, Jonathon uses the same lens throughout the series, a medium-length telephoto lens.
Such a lens would be incapable of focusing on close-up subjects, such as selfies with Sasha or in the bedroom with Catherine
Damn! I wasn’t aware of the experience I was in for when I started watching this AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. “Disclaimer” is based on a novel of the same name by Renée Knight, and was written for the screen and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
At its core, this is a story of revenge
Blanchett stars as Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past resurface in alarming ways, forcing her to confront that past as it wreaks havoc on her entire life. This was a masterfully told story, taking us on a fascinating journey of discovery as the audience sees (sometimes in vivid detail) the “events” of Catherine’s past unfold. Blanchett, as always, is fantastic here, and Kline also gives a solid performance.
Note: There are some pretty graphic depictions of sex/intimacy shown throughout several episodes
It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did it justice. Despite a few minor criticisms, I highly recommend this series if you enjoy character dramas with some added tension/intrigue. This isn’t action-packed, and it took about half the episode (about 30 minutes) before I finally got “hooked” by the story.
I’ll post a video review soon
But boy am I glad I stuck around.
