Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike any before. Outmatched by their abilities, Team Sonic must form an unlikely alliance. The creators of the previous films have mentioned that they used Sonikku adobenchâ 2 (2001) and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film also drew inspiration from the Saturday morning animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). In the television series, Knuckles said that Sonic “Robotnik” is gone and there is no new fight. But in this film, he told Tails and Knuckles that they must ask Dr. Robotnik for help in defeating Shadow the Hedgehog. Because of this, it is unknown how they found out he was still alive.
